A riot of colour

Kaffe Fasset at Standen House, East Grinstead, UK

No quiet palette of pastels or demure whites in this exhibition. Bold, bright colours everywhere, beautifully combined – a riot without clashes.

Kaffe Fassett’s work is extensive and varied, ranging from mosaics and paintings to rugs, knits and patchwork. However, what ties this diverse output together is a rich use of colours, which is both bold and harmonious, and Kaffe successfully combines them with a deep understanding of pattern and contrast.

Early January saw an exhibition of some of his textile work at Standen House, near East Grinstead, UK. The exhibition brought together mainly patchwork and needlepoint, shown at its best in the Arts & Crafts family home and beautifully integrated in the William Morris & Co interiors of the house, which is set in a beautiful hillside garden.
